The Chevy Camaro Convertible Concept certainly qualifies as a cool car by anyone's standards. In fact, GM has one-upped themselves since introducing the 2007 Camaro Concept last year to awaiting fans wanting the convertible version this year.

The aggressive styling, Hugger Orange pearl paintjob and gunmetal gray Z28 racing stripes from head to trunk give the Camaro Convertible Concept two thumbs up in styling. Polished metal accents on exhaust tips and rear taillights and red line on the tires of the Rally Wheels (21-inch front, 22-inch rear) give the vehicle a 1960's look for which the designers were trying.

Since the Camaro Convertible Concept is still a concept vehicle slated to roll out in 2009, Chevy has not yet decided on how the convertible part will operate. Two options they are discussing now are whether to introduce the Camaro with a rag top or folding hardtop.

The Camaro Convertible Concept is not just a looker, but a performer as well. Stacked underneath the hood is a Corvette 6.0-liter LS2 V8 boasting 400 hp and a Tremec T56 six-speed transmission.

Because of the current "green" emphases on most auto manufacturers, the Camaro Convertible Concept also uses cylinder deactivation to conserve fuel and is expected to achieve 30 mpg / highway.

GM's Advanced Design Studio (ADS) in Southern California decided to start with and expand upon the popular 1969 Camaro for inspiration. The Camaro Convertible Concept as it turns out is only two inches wider and one inch longer than the original version.

If you happen to be a convertible Camaro fan, then you've been waiting a long time for a cool concept such as this one to come out. Unlike other concept cars, however, this one looks to be a sure thing to hit production lines in a couple of years, so the wait, it seems is most bearable.
